The Craft & The Cost
Why is fine jewelry priced the way it is? Every piece we make is a reflection of what it truly costs to create something that lasts. Our pricing is transparent by design — it accounts for the quality of materials we source, the fair wages we pay our craftspeople, and the time it takes to do this work with integrity. We don't cut corners, and we don't inflate margins for the sake of a label. What you pay for is exactly what you hold in your hands.
What goes into the price of a piece? Several factors shape the final cost of every ring: the weight and quality of the gold, the grade and origin of the stones, the complexity of the setting, and the hours of skilled labor behind it. A hand-engraved band, for example, requires significantly more time than a polished one — and that time belongs to an artisan who deserves to be paid fairly for it. We believe you deserve to know that.
Do you use lab-grown diamonds? Yes, and intentionally so. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds — the difference is in how they come to exist. We choose them because they allow us to offer exceptional quality at a more accessible price point, without compromising on the standards we hold ourselves to.
Do you offer payment plans? We are happy to discuss payment options for custom orders. Reach out to us directly and we'll find something that works.
Sustainability & Ethics
How do you source your materials? We source our gold and stones with care and intention. We work with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible practices. When natural stones are used, we ask the hard questions about where they come from.
Is your gold recycled? We work with recycled and responsibly sourced 14k gold wherever possible. Gold is one of the most resource-intensive materials in jewelry — using recycled metal is one of the simplest ways we reduce that impact without sacrificing quality.
What does it mean that you're based in Los Angeles? It means our pieces are designed and crafted close to home, with people we know and trust. We believe in keeping production local — it allows us to maintain quality control, support our community, and stay connected to every piece that leaves our studio.
Custom & Bespoke Orders
How does the custom process work? It begins with a conversation. You submit your inquiry through our custom order form, and we follow up within 2–3 business days to schedule a consultation. From there, we develop a design direction together — sketches, material selections, stone sourcing — before anything is finalized or produced. Nothing moves forward without your approval.
How long does a custom piece take? Most custom pieces are completed within 6–10 weeks from design approval. If you have a specific date in mind — a proposal, a birthday, an anniversary — let us know early and we'll do everything we can to accommodate it.
What is the minimum budget for a custom piece? Custom work typically begins at $3,000. Heirloom redesigns may vary depending on existing materials. We're happy to have an honest conversation about what's possible within your budget.
Can I use stones or metals I already own? Absolutely. Bringing something inherited into a new life is one of the most meaningful things we do. Share what you have and we'll design around it.
Ring Sizing
How do I find my ring size? Please refer to our ring sizer. If you'd like a ring sizer kit, we'd be happy to send you our complimentary kit.
What if my ring doesn't fit? We offer one complimentary resize within 30 days of delivery for ready-to-wear pieces. Custom pieces are sized to order, so we ask that you take extra care confirming your size before production begins.
Do you make rings in half sizes? Yes. We size in half and quarter increments — just let us know what you need.
Caring for Your Jewelry
How do I care for my diamond jewelry? Diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth, but the settings that hold them require a little more care. To keep your piece looking its best: remove it before swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and perfumes. Clean gently with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled brush. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth and store in a soft pouch or lined box away from other pieces.
How do I care for 14k gold? 14k gold is durable and long-wearing, but it can scratch and dull over time with daily exposure to harsh chemicals, chlorine, and abrasive surfaces. Remove your ring before cleaning, swimming, or any heavy activity. A gentle polish with a soft cloth will restore its warmth. For deeper cleaning, a professional polish once a year will keep it looking like new.
Will my gold tarnish? No. 14k gold is an alloy, meaning it contains other metals alongside gold. Over time, exposure to moisture, sweat, and chemicals can cause minor surface dulling — this is normal and easily remedied with a gentle clean or professional polish. It is not permanent damage.
Shipping
Where do you ship? We ship within the United States and select international destinations. All orders are fully insured and shipped with signature required — because what's inside deserves to arrive safely.
How long does shipping take? Made-to-order pieces ship within 3–5 weeks. Custom pieces ship upon completion, with advance notice provided. Expedited shipping is available upon request. We are a small house with big intentions. Each piece is made to order — crafted for you, not for a shelf. As we grow, so will our collection. For now, we make things the slow way, which we've found is usually the right way.
Is my order insured during transit? Yes. Every shipment is fully insured for its declared value. In the rare event of loss or damage in transit, we will work with you directly to make it right.
Returns & Repairs
What is your return policy? Each By Shanira piece is thoughtfully designed and made to order. Due to the custom nature of our jewelry, all sales are final. Please refer to our refund policy for further details.
What if my piece needs a repair? We stand behind our craft. If something isn't right with a piece we made, reach out and we'll take care of it. Repairs due to normal wear are handled on a case-by-case basis, and we'll always be upfront about what's involved.
Do you offer resizing after purchase? Yes. One complimentary resize is included within 30 days of delivery for ready-to-wear pieces. Subsequent resizes are available at a modest fee.
